This book is a “Simplified” appreciation of the selected poems by WAEC and NECO for the 2026–2030 Literature Syllabus.

The book opens with an explanation of some terms used in poetry which would be of immense help for Literature to understand poetry.

The selected African poems are also appreciated in chapter two, while the Non-African poems are analyzed in chapter three. These are the poems:

African Poems

Once Upon a Time by Gabriel Okara

New Tongue by Elizabeth L.A Kamara

Night by Wole Soyinka

Not My Business by Niyi Osundare

Hearty Garlands by S.O.H Afriyie-Vidza

The Breast of the Sea by Syl Cheney-Coker

Non-African Poems

She Walks in Beauty by Lord Byron

The Nun’s Priest’s Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer

Digging by Seamus Heany

Still I Rise by Maya Angelou

The Telephone Call by Fleur Adcock

The Stone by Wilfrid Wilson Gibson

A lot of benefits abound in this book; it gives access to the various social-media platforms of the author which connects the readers to the author for any discourse on Literature-in-English.

Simplified Poetry Vol II is written by a Literature enthusiast, Folahan Oyelekan, an experienced teacher and examiner of Literature-in-English.

You can follow me on YouTube where all the poems and the Recommended texts are reviewed and analyzed.
